History
The South-west Québec forest product producer’s
joint plan is a non-governmental syndical organization administered
by active producers duly appointed by their peers during annual
general assemblies. It stems from needs expressed by the South-west
Quebec forest products producers to strengthen their negotiating
position and representation with government authorities and
wood buyers.
Territory
It regroups all the wood producers located in a territory which
covers nearly 400 municipalities and 21 MRCs. (regional county
municipalities). Thus, more than 28 000 forest owners have the
benefit of an influential organization in demanding a key role
in regional forestry development.
The Organization
The joint plan concerns the whole of the wood coming from private
forests including the Canada yew. It organizes the marketing
of ligneous and non-ligneous products for all purposes (with
the exception of heating wood) thus permitting a better understanding
of the markets and buyers and a rapid reaction to sudden changes
in selling conditions. It acts as the sole agent for the marketing
and sale of the producers’ wood destined for pulp and
paper, panels, lumber and various other applications.
Mission
The joint plan’s mission is to address market development
and the optimization of the use of private forest production.
Objective
The plan’s objectives are the study, protection and development
of the economic and social interests of the forest owners and
in particular:
• the rerouping of forest owners whose woodlands are in
Québec’s south-west (Lanaudière, Montérégie,
Outaouais, Laurentides);
• the study of problems relating to the production and
marketing of wood
• the obtaining of the best marketing conditions for the
joint wood producers
• the organization of production in order to produce a
quality product which meets market requirements and needs.
• the placing of emphasis on the search for new markets
• keeping forest owners informed on questions of production,
wood sales and forest development
• The promotion of intensive and durable private forest
development
