Under the Loi sur la mise en
marché des produits agricoles, wood from private
forests is considered to be an agricultural product. As such,
this product is managed by the wood producers associations with
the help of a joint plan corresponding to the association’s
territorial limits. Members agree on various regulations and
duties in order to ensure efficient marketing of the wood.
The following information
therefore concerns the owners in the area covered by the Syndicat
des propriétaires forestiers du Sud-Ouest du Québec
which includes the Montérégie, Lanaudière,
Outaouais and the Laurentides.
The Association negotiates marketing agreements with the
mills in order to obtain favourable prices and conditions
for the producers on its territory. All woodland owners wishing
to market wood are obliged to do so through the association
since, by law, it has the exclusive rights to this activity
for markets for pulp and paper, sawmills, posts, pallets,
rotary cutting, peeled veneer, panelling, Canada yew and other
applications. For all agreements made with the industry, payments
to the producers for their wood are handled exclusively by
the Association.
The markets:
- Rotary cutting; peeled veneer
- Energy wood
- Sawmilling
- Wood chips
- Posts
- Heating wood
- Wood used for pallets
- Canada Yew
- Wood used for panelling
- Other products
- Pulp and paper
- Limited markets
We suggest that you consult the Guide de façonnage
et de mise en marché du bois (Wood marketing and processing
guide) and its aide-memoire for all questions concerning processing.
